Urban Retreats

Join Bill Mahony and Kenny Graham as they co-teach and skillfully weave their teachings into a fabric of full experience; bhakti philosophy, energetic & yin asana, meditation, and kirtan.

Discussions and practices in this urban retreat will focus on some of the characteristics and possibilities of a yogic life illumined and supported by spiritual love. It will be a full and inspiring weekend woven with various threads. Bill Mahony will lead us in reflecting together on selected passages from the Bhakti Sutra in a spirit of satsang as well as share stories of Krishna, who is understood to be an embodiment of divine love.

Kenny Graham offers a form and flow vinyasa and Yin Bhakti infused yoga retreat weekend exploring seeing our bodies and minds as they really are in relation to our world and our yoga. At a deeper level, direct personal experience will lead us to the center of the Heart. Right Intent for the practice must come from the heart and involves recognizing the equality of all life and compassion for all that life, beginning with yourself.

Urban Yoga Retreat with Kenny Graham
Kenny Graham

Drawing on his 23 years of yoga study and experience, Kenny Graham teaches yoga in a way that is functional, accessible, intelligent and inspiring. He honors the fact that each body is unique, and that the adaptation of posture is a personal journey. His teaching helps to free limiting mental patterns, lighten the heart and increase body awareness. Kenny teaches with a focus on equanimity of movement in Yang (Form and Flow Vinyasa) and Yin to counter imbalances, which helps restore the body to its natural fluidity and balance. Through a functional approach to posture, breath and meditation, he helps students to discover their own unique alignment in the world. He has a BA in Psychology and has always been keenly interested in cultivating a deeper remembrance of the mind-body connection. He takes refuge in meditation practice and has witnessed first-hand its power to transform one’s own life. Meditation was his first introduction to yoga and later he supplemented this with physical practice to support his life style. Kenny continues to study and learn from yoga teachers in many traditions and practitioners of various modalities including chiropractic, body work, anatomy, philosophy, Pilates, physical fitness, martial arts, acupuncture, nutrition and medicine. Registered with Yoga Alliance at the highest level (E- RYT®500) he teaches in Santa Cruz CA and leads teacher trainings, workshops, retreats and festivals in the Bay Area and worldwide.

Urban Yoga Retreat with Nina Rao
Nina Rao

The bhakti yoga practice of kirtan – call-and-response chanting offers devotion to the Love that connects us all.
Nina Rao first learned traditional chants from her grandfather as a young girl while on summer holiday in a village in south India. The chants quietly stayed with her until she rediscovered chanting with Krishna Das in New York in 1996.

Heart-centered spiritual practices can open us to the experience of love: for the world, for others, for ourselves, for life itself, for divinity. The complexities and possibilities of life’s journey give us an opportunity to strengthen, deepen and clarify this love. This is so important in today’s challenging and in some ways fractured world. Discussions and practices in this urban retreat will focus on some of the characteristics and possibilities of a yogic life illumined and supported by spiritual love. It will be a full and inspiring weekend woven with various threads. Bill Mahony will lead us in reflecting together on selected passages from the Bhakti Sutra in a spirit of satsang. This important classical text can inform us in our own lives today as we refine our understanding of the spiritual love that stands at the heart of a deep yogic practice. Bill will also weave into our discussions references to the Bhagavad Gita, another important yogic text. And he will tell some stories of Krishna, who is understood to be an embodiment of divine love.
