Yoga and the Refinement of the Emotions: An Afternoon of Yoga Philosophy and Practice
Led by: Bill Mahony
From November 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm until November 22, 2014 at 5:00 pm at Dumbo
Heart-centered forms of yoga recognize the value of our emotions as gateways to deeper experiences of Spirit. Yet, we can also get ensnarled in our emotions and seemingly stumble in our progress in the yogic life. This afternoon we will explore the nature of the emotions from a yogic perspective. We will focus on the concepts of bh?va and rasa. Bh?va means not only “emotion” but also “inner state, mood, attitude.” Rasa, literally “juice, essence, nectar,” is the purest and most sublime level of an emotion and, accordingly, the closest to the quality of Spirit.
Our discussions will help us clarify and deepen our understanding of the inner mechanisms through which various inner states can both confuse us yet also awaken, strengthen and refine an innate and profound sense of love.
Since yogic study is supported by a refreshed body and mind, Tara Glazier will lead a voluntary session of asana practice woven into our discussion. All are welcome. Come join us!
